AI Won’t Replace Creatives, But It Can Multiply Their Output

Two years ago, AI-generated video was a punchline. Today, it’s showing up in professional creative and marketers are racing to use it well.
At The Clubhouse at Brandweek 2026, OpenArt hosted three workshops on AI-powered campaigns. The workshops showcased how OpenArt can power marketers to build better and faster creative. Post workshops, OpenArt’s Chloe Fang, head of enterprise GTM, and Raj Gajwani, chief business officer, told ADWEEK why AI tools are finally ready for commercial work and what enterprise teams need to scale safely.
From toy to toolkit
Four years ago, Gajwani said, AI image and video tools were science projects. Two years ago, the internet was laughing at an AI-generated clip of Will Smith eating spaghetti. By late 2025, the tools had become good enough for professional work.
Fang sees the shift as part of a long pattern. “Every leap in the creative space has been hand- in- hand with the leap in technology,” she said.
Within a year, Gajwani expects, “for a creative to say, ‘I’m not using AI’ will be kind of like a carpenter saying, ‘I’m not using a hammer.’”
Removing friction, not creativity
Neither Gajwani nor Fang see AI replacing people. “The creative is the visionary who has to conceive of, instruct, direct, fix, and improve the output,” Gajwani said.
“A lot of creatives think AI is removing the human, but actually it’s removing the friction to creativity,” Fang said.
Nor does the workload shrink. When production costs drop tenfold, marketers can ask for 100 genuinely distinct ads instead of 100 background swaps. In Gajwani’s view, AI is an Iron Man suit for creatives, not a robot built to replace them.
Making the magic scale
Gajwani and Fang were both realistic and optimistic about where AI is heading. “There is no magic button,” Gajwani said. “These are labor-saving tools.”
But in the right hands, the results feel like magic. “I always have these amazing ideas in my mind, but I don’t have the technicality to really visualize them,” Fang said. “Now, with tools like OpenArt, I can visualize what’s in my mind, and I see so much more magic happening.”
To scale that magic safely, OpenArt pairs more than 100 models with enterprise controls for teams and outside vendors, plus what it calls the industry’s first IP infringement checker. The goal, Fang said, is to bring that magic to more people.
