Top of the Ticker: NBC News’ long-running investigative series Dateline is getting a clone in Canada, with Dateline Canada debuting on Citytv and Citytv+ on Thursday, November 26.
This marks the true-crime franchise’s first international expansion under a licensing deal with Rogers Studios. Diana Swain, a former CBC News senior investigative correspondent and current host of The Investigators on CBC News Network, will host the spinoff. The premiere episode, which is two hours long, looks into the disappearance of Elizabeth Bain, a University of Toronto student who went missing in 1990.
Keith Morrison, who hosts the U.S. version, began his journalism career in Canada, where he is from, and previously worked with CTV and CBC News.
Data center backlash: MS NOW anchor Ali Velshi will, on Sunday night at 10 p.m. ET, host a new special on the growing nationwide backlash to data centers and A.I. Sparking Outrage: Data Center and A.I. Backlash will feature reporting from MS NOW senior reporter Josh Einiger, with the topic becoming one of the key issues of next month’s midterm elections.
Meanwhile, the network made an on-air apology on Wednesday after falsely reporting that FBI director Kash Patel had traveled to Russia to meet with officials. Justice correspondent Ken Dilanian, who filed the initial report citing two anonymous FBI sources, issued the apology later that day, saying, “We regret this error, and we are transparent about when we make errors.”
New partnership: CNN this week announced it will be participating in Google’s news A.I. pilot program. The network said this multi-year partnership will provide enhanced content rights, enabling experimental features in Google products to help explore how generative A.I. can create additional engagement for its journalism.
In other news, CNN announced that its direct-to-consumer (DTC) subscription product, CNN All Access, will be expanding to Canada and the United Kingdom beginning October 20. CNN All Access, which has been live in the U.S. for nearly a year, will cost $7.99 CAD per month or $79.99 CAD annually. In the U.K., it’ll cost £4.99 per month or £49.99 annually.
Online availability: U.S. viewers with a bigger appetite for international news can now grab a bigger plate as the BBC announced its flagship news channel, BBC News, will be available on YouTube. BBC says this is part of a wider strategy to reach digitally native, younger audiences. The U.S. joins Australia, Kenya, Nigeria, and Poland in gaining access to BBC News via YouTube.
Awards: On Wednesday night, MS NOW’s senior contributing editor, Michele Norris, received the Freedom of the Press Career Achievement Award at the 2026 RCFP Freedom of the Press Awards. In accepting her award, Norris also honored journalists, including those at MS NOW, who have stood up to efforts to silence the press, saying the battle over freedom of the press is one journalists have been there before and “is not new ground.”
