AI智能体替SaaStr选型托管首选Render,被智能体读懂成为新获客门槛

Our AI Agent Picked Render Over Railway and Vercel. I’d Barely Heard of It. That’s How You Get Leads in The Agent Age.

I asked our agent for SaaStr AI Connect a simple question this week: if we wanted to move hosting, where should we go?

It came back with a full evaluation and one line at the top: “For hosting the app, I’d pick Render.”

In the comparison table, next to Render, it added “(my pick).”

I had never heard of Render. Maybe I should have (it’s well funded and raised at $1.5B earlier this year), but I never had. I couldn’t have told you what they do.

Now Render gets tested first.

The Agent Wrote the Requirements Before It Named a Vendor

Before recommending anyone, the agent listed what Connect needs from hosting:

  • An always-on web server for the site and the API.
  • An always-on background worker. Connect has a separate worker process that runs the schedulers, refills, warm-ups and email builds.
  • Long-running jobs. Our email builds take minutes.
  • Logs kept for days. That’s a pain point for us today.
  • Deploys without downtime, and sized machines. We’re on a large one now.

I didn’t write that list. The agent did, because it knows the codebase better than I do. It started from the workload. Most human buyers start from the brands they already know.

Five Options, One Pick, One Crossed Out

Here’s how the agent scored the field, in its own words:

  • Render (my pick): “Built for exactly this shape.” Web service plus background worker plus scheduled jobs, health checks, zero-downtime deploys, longer log retention, choice of machine sizes.
  • Railway: Very easy, pay-per-use, also handles web plus worker. “A bit less mature for heavy production.”
  • Fly.io: Fast and flexible, but more hands-on. You manage more of the setup.
  • AWS / Google Cloud: Maximum control and scale, but needs real ops work. “Overkill for now.”
  • Vercel / Netlify: Struck through. “Not suitable [for this app].” Built for short web requests, and we run minutes-long jobs and background workers.  We’ve used Vercel many times before and it was great, so in fact I assumed it would be the default choice here. But not for this app at least. Not according to the SaaStr AI Connect agent, at least.

We Use Vercel in Other Apps, But Here It Lost on One Sentence

Vercel and AWS were the names I knew going in, along with some rough familiarity with Railway, The agent crossed Vercel out on a single criterion: long tasks.

I haven’t checked whether that’s the full picture of what Vercel can do today. For this purchase, it doesn’t matter much. That’s what the agent believes, and the agent made the shortlist.

If your product gets filtered out on a belief that’s stale or incomplete, you never find out. There’s no lost deal in the CRM and no closed-lost reason to review.

Most Important: Render Got a Qualified Lead From a Buyer Who Didn’t Know Its Name

Count the steps: requirements gathered, five vendor categories compared, one eliminated, one selected, a test queued up. I was involved in two of them. I asked the question, and I said OK, test it.

My brand awareness of Render going in was zero. It still won the first slot.

In the old motion, a vendor had to reach me. Here, the vendor had to be legible to the agent doing the evaluation for me.

What We’d Do This Week on the Vendor Side

1. Ask as many different agents as you can the question your buyer’s agent is getting asked. For Render’s category, that’s “where should I host an app with a web server, a background worker, and jobs that run for minutes?” Run it through Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and the coding agents. Write down whether you show up and the exact sentence used to describe you.

2. Find your strikethrough. Each of the four non-picks lost on one short phrase: “less mature for heavy production,” “more hands-on,” “overkill for now,” “not suitable.” Find the phrase attached to you. If it’s wrong, fix the docs and public pages agents read. If it’s right, that’s a roadmap item.

3. Say plainly what shape of customer you’re built for. Render won on “built for exactly this shape.” The agent matched a workload description to a product description. Web plus worker plus scheduled jobs is a sentence a machine can match.

Render Goes First

We’ll test it against the two things the agent flagged as our real pain: the worker process and log retention. If it doesn’t hold up, Railway is next on the agent’s list.

I’ll report back on what we find.

That’s how you get leads in The Agent Age.
